Product Description
This reproduction Jodocus Hondius 1627 world globe is very skillfully made. It measures overall 14.2" Length x 12.6" width x 17.3" Height.
This Jodocus Hondius Globe is made of copperplate printed gores (specially shaped map sections) modeled after the actual 16th Century orginal cartographers globe. The gores are cut and applied by hand on papier-mache globe spheres. The globe is meticulously handcrafted using the complicated ‘gravure’ printing process that results in the sharpest details, lines and symbols.
The globe stand is made of solid aluminum with a polished pewter finish. On the stands meridian (round arm) are latitude (coordinate) markings which start at the equator 0° and run to 90° at the north and south pole. The meridian is a useful way to locate a place on a globe.
Nautical scenes are depicted on the outside of the Globe and include tall ships, compass roses and mythical sea monsters.
This beautiful Jodocus Hondius 1627 world globe is sure to become a conversational addition to your nautical desk top decor.
