A reprint of the original copperplate gores made in cooperation with the Royal Library in Bruxelles. Gerardus Mercator created the first European Mercator Projection map in 1568, it became the standard map projection for nautical purposes because of its ability to represent lines of constant course, known as rhumb lines.
